IDEA Certification: What does it mean?

A few years ago, when we realized that Leo’s Overhead Doors was going to hit our 50th year in service in 2016, we decided it was time to go to the next level. We needed to ensure that not only were we doing our best for our clients, but we wanted to recognize our milestone by becoming a household name synonymous with quality in overhead doors. To do that, we felt that a formal distinction obtained from a knowledgeable, nonpartisan entity would be a worthwhile goal for our company to strive for, for our clients to know that we are in fact, always doing our best to provide unparalleled quality in every aspect of our business.

So we looked around at what we could do, and found the International Door Association, or IDA, the trade association in the United States for overhead door companies. To be a member, companies must adhere to their code of conduct, among other things. The code of conduct is designed to allow for only the highest caliber of companies in their way of conducting business to be members of the IDA. The IDA’s Code of Business Conduct outlines maintaining customer satisfaction, truth in selling & advertising, responsible business practices, safety, compliance, warranties, and more. In addition, the IDA encourages an accreditation program through the IDEA (Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation) to certify overhead door companies in several facets of business. Only overhead door companies that can pass certain tests can be accredited. The test subjects to pass are as follows: Accounting and General Business Principles, Safety and OSHA Compliance, Insurance and Legal, Residential and Commercial Door Technical Essentials, Commercial Steel Rolling Doors, and Sales and Marketing.

We undertook to earn and maintain this accreditation for our customers, and I am proud to report that we have been an accredited dealer for over a year now.
